Score a Home Run with Your Date: What to Wear to a Baseball Game
Has the woman in your life been singing “Take me out to the ballgame,” on an annoyingly frequent basis? There might be something wrong. That’s a very strange song for a young person to sing over and over again.
But don’t worry. The most likely explanation is that she’s fine and there’s something wrong with you. She just wants to go to a baseball game and has been dropping hints for weeks. Singing that ridiculous old song is just part of it. She’s also been eating boxes of Cracker Jack in bed, watching “Moneyball” and “Bull Durham” on repeat, etc. How can you not have picked up on this?
So get some tickets and take her to a game. That’s a no-brainer.
But now comes the big question: what should you wear?
Well we decided to ask an expert: PJ Butta, the legendary disc jockey, loyal Taelor customer and in-game host for the Los Angeles Dodgers . Interestingly, he didn’t agree with our opinion that grown men should never wear a jersey with someone else’s name on it.
“I’ve heard that a lot of times, but I see both sides of it,” PJ said. “If you’re a big fan, you want to show that.”
When he’s working at Dodgers Stadium, PJ has to follow the guidelines of Major League Baseball when getting dressed. “Any MLB-approved gear is fine. You can’t wear other teams. And you can’t wear something your cousin printed on his garage printer. It has to be MLB-approved,” he said.
Guys who don’t work for the home team have more options. PJ has some advice for those guys.
“I always like the early Spring games and Fall games because it's cool. So that's a good time to wear something with ‘Dodgers’ on it. But it’s also a good time to wear sweaters or some type of zip-up hoodie or anything like that to be warm,” says PJ.
“In the summertime, you definitely need something cool, something breathable,’ he says.
PJ noted that there are no MLB-approved pants for someone in his role at the ballpark. So he turns to Taelor. “I always hit up Taelor and say ‘like, listen summers coming up. I need some breathable, comfortable, pants. Maybe cargo pants because I have stuff that put in my pockets.’”
Unless you are PJ, a baseball field is not your office, so dress to relax.
“Whatever makes you comfortable works. You definitely want to be comfortable,” he said.

Given that, here are five attire ideas that will help you hit it out of the park.
1. Start with a Classic Baseball Tee
You know, the kind with the raglan sleeves and the team logo front and center. It's a nod to the occasion and shows off your team spirit without going overboard. Pair it with some well-fitting jeans or chinos for that effortlessly cool look. That a bit too casual for you? Swap out the baseball tee for a stylish button-up shirt in a lightweight fabric like linen or chambray. Roll up the sleeves for a laid-back look that's perfect for the ballpark. Pair it with tailored chinos or shorts for a polished yet relaxed ensemble. And don't forget a lightweight jacket or hoodie in case the evening gets a bit chilly.
2. Let's Talk Footwear
Leave the dress shoes in the closet and lace up your favorite sneakers instead. You're going to be on your feet cheering on your team, so opt for something comfortable. Plus, sneakers add a laid-back, boys-of-summer vibe to any outfit.
3. Accessories Can Take Your Outfit from a Single to a Home Run
Throw on a baseball cap to shield your eyes from the sun and show off your team allegiance. Sunglasses are a must for those sunny days, and a watch adds a touch of sophistication while keeping you on time for the first pitch.
4. Sunscreen. Enough Said.
5. Let's not Forget about Your Date.
You want to coordinate your outfits without looking like you're wearing matching jerseys. Encourage your date to embrace the casual vibe with a cute team tee or jersey paired with jeans or shorts.
Now that you've got your outfit sorted, it's time to focus on the game plan. Remember, the key to a successful date at the ballpark is to relax, have fun, and enjoy each other's company. Cheer on your team, indulge in some ballpark snacks, and maybe even share a kiss during the seventh-inning stretch. Just remember to snap a few selfies to capture the memories.
So there you have it, gentlemen. With the right outfit and attitude, you'll knock it out of the park on your baseball date. Whether you're keeping it casual with a baseball tee and jeans or stepping up your game with a stylish button-up shirt, the most important thing is to be yourself and have a great time. Play ball!
Baseball not your thing? Maybe take your date to a music festival instead. Or perhaps a comedy club is more your style. Wherever your dating life takes you, Taelor has you covered.
